Cyberbullying at Schools – Particularities & Explanation Patterns

Our speaker this month will be Ruth Festl from the Helmholtz Zentrum Munich, the German Research Center for Environmental Health. She will elucidate on the particularities of Cyberbullying, making this phenomenon one of the major concerns of adolescents growing up in the digitized world today. She will present selected findings of her longitudinal research project, "Cyberbulling at Schools," focusing on the ambivalent role of adolescents who are often perpetrators and victims at the same time.

Bio:
Since January 2018. Ruth Festl is working as a postdoctoral researcher in Social Media  Her research activities focus on the positive and negative aspects of the use and effects of social media and online communication especially in regard to children and adolescents. She studied education at LMU Munich and received her doctorate in 2014, from Univ. of Münster, with a dissertation on  Cyberbullying perpetration. For the last eight years she has worked on various projects for European Research Council, DFG or German Research foundation and German Youth Institute focusing on children, adolescents, families and media.
