Advances in Reconstructive Spinal Surgery

Program Meeting - October 2018

Wednesday, October 17th at 6:30 PM

Our speaker for October is Professor Bronek Boszczyk, the new Head of Spinal Surgery at the Benedictus Krankenhaus in Tutzing, formerly Visiting Professor and Clinical Associate Professor at Nottingham University Hospitals in the fields of research, Orthopedic and Accident Surgery. Since 2003, his has worked exclusively on spinal surgery, with a focus on the complex reconstructive surgery of the adult and pediatric spine, due to deformity and tumours of the spine. He will speak on advances in reconstructive spinal surgery techniques starting with general information and including measures for prophylaxis. Of interest to us all is the question of why and when such operations are necessary.

Professor Boszczyk  did his Medical training in Germany with electives spent in South Africa and USA. He has been involved in anatomical research of the spine since medical school under the mentorship of Professor R Putz, of the renowned Anatomical Institute of the LMU Munich, which led to a dedicated interest in the field of spinal disorders. His postgraduate training was divided between Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery with a focus on spinal surgery. His resident training was in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1998, under mentorship of Professor M. Mayer in Munich. Neurosurgical training was completed in 2003, under the mentorship of Dr. Jaksche of the Murnau Trauma Centre in Bavaria. In addition he has served numerous fellowship posts, positions and professorships at hospitals and clinics specializing Spine Surgery.
