February Program Meeting

Prof. Dr. Oliver Behrend

What is the brain and how does it work?

What is the brain and how does it work? Is there a difference between the brain and the mind? At our meeting in February, we will explore some of the fundamental questions of modern neuroscience. Munich is one of the world-leading neuroscience hotspots, with an incredibly diverse range of cutting-edge institutions working on understanding how the brain functions and also what can be done when it doesn’t. Our guest speaker, Prof. Dr. Oliver Behrend, is the Managing Director of the Munich Center for Neurosciences (MCN-LMU). MCN-LMU connects research groups and institutions across the Munich area and internationally, with state-of-the- art research initiatives and training for the next generation of neuroscience experts. His talk will touch on the topics, methods, history and ethical aspects of neuro-scientific research and what might be on the horizon. Prof. Behrend is a native of Munich, where he completed his Diplom in Biology and his PhD in Neurobiology at LMU Munich. After his doctoral studies, he held research positions at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology in Martinsried, University of Sydney, and Humboldt University Berlin, before returning to LMU Munich in 2008, where he is a faculty member of the Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences and is Managing Director of MCN-LMU.

Our monthly meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023, beginning at 18:30.
